Scary statistics about gym equipment

So you like pumping weights? Especially free weights? Well, check this out: New research has found that free weights have 362 times more bacteria than a toilet seat! YUK!
A new company called FitRated took samples from 27 pieces of gym equipment and found the following:
- There were over 1 million germs per square inch!
- Average treadmill had 74 times more bacteria than a public toilet faucet
- Average free weight had 362 times more bacteria than a normal toilet seat
- Exercise bike had 39 times more bacteria than a food tray
- Bacteria on gym equipment can cause pneumonia or septicaemia
So, what can you do? Well if you want to be REALLY safe, then don’t go to the gym - but that’s crazy and that’s not what LA Muscle advises. If you are worried about gym bacteria 9especially after this article!) then it may be an idea to carry some disinfectant wipes and wipe the equipment before use. Also wash your hands before and after each workout with a good anti-bacterial hand wash.
This way you kill off most bacteria and ensure you are not at risk of catching anything from your favourite gym equipment.
