Mr Six-pack talks!
Exclusive interview with GB athlete, model and every girl's fantasy Ross Edgley.
Hi Ross, can you let us know how old are you at the moment and where do you live?
I have just turned the grand old age of 21 : and I'm currently living back in my home town of Grantham (home of Margaret Thatcher and Isaac Newton went to my school : haha, just incase you wanted to know that)
The list of your achievements is quite impressive; you're on the front cover of the University calendar, you are in talks with Channel 4 to co-host a fitness show, you're a successful water polo player, fitness model and on top of that there is University on a daily basis. Do you ever rest?
Haha, erm…not much no….but I do enjoy my free time when I get it. I just like to keep busy I guess :
But how's all this started? Have you always been "the" sporty type?
Yeh I've always loved sport, my dads a tennis coach and my mum was an athlete…so I've always been given every opportunity…I guess I was lucky in that respect.
At what age did you get involved in water polo? How did your career progress?
Erm…I started when I was about 11 years old….then it was literally a case of me working hard for every team I played for…first being my school team, then county, then district, then country :
What are your major achievements in that field?
Erm….representing my country was pretty great, every athletes dream…so proud. But also playing the last ever game with my school team. I'd played with those guys for 7 years and they were like my brothers… captaining them was a real honour :
And how did you manage to build your amazing physique?
Haha….oh you….erm…I'm not sure about that…but I just love training and sport. They are both so sociable and I guess the nice body comes with it.
Seems like you are a promising entrepreneur too, can you tell us more about O'Crème Management?
I can :….its basically an intermediary company within the representative industry… we help athletes and models gain representation with the agency best suited to meet their needs, all at no expense to the athlete. It's a company who athletes and models can come to if they want advice on finding an agent and we are completely their for their welfare : a company run by athletes for athletes :
And seems like you work with many athletes sponsored by LA Muscle as well….
We do indeed….LA Muscle Sponsored Athletes are amongst the best, and it's an honour to help them in anyway we can
Do you want to further your career in media, journalism…?
I do : I love writing articles, speaking on the radio, appearing on TV…I just find it interesting and its something I've a passion for :
You've been in talks with Dr Gillian McKeith representing DrGTV and Channel 4, discussing a new fitness programme you are to co- present. What's the outcome?
Basically with all I have on my plate at the moment, we had to scrap the idea…however in saying that, I'm currently talking with a production company about a sports TV Programme, however my lips are sealed and I am sworn to secrecy : haha
So how does your typical day look like?
Busy…haha….erm….
-Wake up
-Eat (this is usually my first thought)
-Run the business
-Take a break from work and go to the gym
-Run the business
-Cardio training (usually swimming or specifically water polo)
-Then to just relax I usually sit down and scribble down an article :
And what's your training routine?
Strength training 6 times a week
Cardio training 7 times a week
In between I will usually do some flexibility work
And just play any sport at every opportunity :
Are you extremely careful and disciplined with what and when you eat?
I am but I really like fruit and vegetables so eating healthy really isn't too much of an issue
What are the biggest benefits of supplementation?
They just help you train that little harder or break through that plateu in your training
Which supplements are you taking at the moment and how do they help you?
I've just finished a tub of the LA Muscle Explosive Creatine….really really helped with my strength gains and it tastes brilliant. I think I would drink that stuff even if it didn't have creatine in : haha
Does your work affect your personal life?
Not really….I still enjoy going out every now and then….But if I've a photo shoot or a game I'm pretty focused and a little more strict with my diet :
What is women's reaction to you being a model?
Erm….I'm not sure really, I don't talk about it ever so much :
Do you currently have a partner?
Sadly no 9 I've been single and all on my tod for about 6 months now, haha
Do you have any role models?
Yeh I look up to a lot of people, in all different areas….
All the great entrepreneurs; Branson, Sugar, Trump
All the great athletes; Linford Christie, Sebastien Coe, Redgrave, Mark Spitz,
And so much respect and admiration for people who are just so passionate about what they do….Steve Erwin, Jamie Oliver.. to name a few
What do you consider to be your biggest achievement up to date?
Probably starting my own business, its something I've always wanted and now I have it :
What keeps you going on a daily basis?
I am forever setting myself goals….whether they are long term or short term, and so aspirations are what keep me going
Do you plan to use your experience in more sports related field, for example becoming a PT?
Whatever I do in the future, it will be in sport, health and fitness…just because this is what I am good at and most passionate about : I plan to keep writing my articles and possibly (fingers crossed) make this TV program :
What do you think is the best way of encouraging people to care more about their bodies?
I really believe in educating people rather than instructing them…since too many gyms and personal trainers instruct people rather than educate them. There needs to be less of an emphasis on 'strict programmes' 'rigid diet plans' and more emphasis on educating society so people can eventually take control of their own health and fitness and write their own training programmes and diet plans. People need to be taught not commanded.
What is your ultimate goal?
To start up and run many more businesses and to have as large a positive influence within the fitness, health and sporting industry as I can, whether that is through my articles, TV, or radio.
Will you be entering any competitions soon?
Erm..I don't think so….me and Rob Riches were talking about this the other day actually…I think I'm far too shy to walk around on stage posing with everyone looking at me ..haha…
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Thank you :
