Overtraining is a common problem in fitness and people tend to think that more is better. This theory is incorrect as overtraining can be very counterproductive to your fitness goals.

What is overtraining?

Over training is the result of giving your body more work or stress then it can handle. Overtraining occurs when a person experiences stress and physical trauma from exercise faster than their body can repair the damage.

The symptoms of overtraining Include: Overtraining syndrome

  • Persistent muscle soreness.
  • Elevated resting heart rate
  • Increased incidence of injuries
  • Irritability
  • Depression
  • Lack of motivation for exercise
  • Tiredness
  • Aggression
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight Loss
  • Lacking results
  • Insomnia
  • Constant thirst
  • Personality changes
  • Feeling sick constantly

How to avoid overtraining

  • Make sure to train each muscle group once a week
  • Have a at least 2-3 days off per week from exercising
  • Rest well
  • Eat lots of protein, slow releasing carbs and healthy fats.
  • Drink Water
  • Sleep Well
  • Treat yourself to a massage
  • Have a nice hot bath
  • Reduce the training load
  • Take a multi-vitamin
