Doing This Everyday Can Improve Your Wellbeing

A Mindful Change

A healthy balanced lifestyle should be one that enables you to actively do everything that makes you happy whilst balancing your many commitments without too much difficulty or stress. It’s important to not let everything get on top of us and sometime a bit of schedule shuffling is required to make time for everything.

According to Art Fund, the national charity for art, alongside Professor Paul Dolan, behavioural scientist at the London School of Economics, a report was created from a study that highlighted how people, men in particular, don’t make time for themselves. Whilst the main aspect of the report focused on people doing things like visiting museums and art galleries, it was discovered that not many of the people made any time for themselves each day to do something that they enjoy.

Downtime, free time, whatever you want to call it, is an important aspect of our daily schedules. It may sometimes feel like time is always against us and there isn’t any spare to do something we enjoy but with a little planning, most people can find that 30 minutes, and the benefits of doing so shouldn’t be underrated.

The report found that a staggering 58% of men do not make purposeful choices to improve their wellbeing, even though a huge 72% of people who make time for a hobby are satisfied with life overall. In contrast, only 47% of men who don’t make time for a hobby are satisfied with life.

Changing the habits of a lifestyle can be very difficult. Good practices will need to be built into your daily routine and then persistently done for at least a couple of months before they stick and become part of your new lifestyle. Set yourself realistic short, mid and long-term goals that will give you a framework to plan and make positive changes over time.

Stressors can sometimes be of our own making, such as spending too much time on social media or worrying about things that should be avoidable. By making time for yourself more often, the more habitual the behaviour becomes it can only result in a positive impact on your overall wellbeing.

So whether it’s a morning stroll before work, a quick lunchtime workout, doing one of your favourite hobbies or spending some time with family or friends in the evening, as little as 30 minutes per day can have significant health benefits and give you a better lease of life and improved general wellbeing.
