Did you know that some “bad” foods are actually good for you? Below you will find a list of 10 bad foods which actually do your body good:

1. Peanut butter

Most people think peanut butter is very fattening. Peanut butter does indeed contain a huge amount of fat, however most of it is good fats and you also get B vitamins and protein. Peanut butter is calorie-dense so don’t go too crazy with it!

2. Eggs

You have all heard how eggs are full of cholesterol and bad for you. Have you also heard that this idea was introduced by a drugs company trying to sell its anti-cholesterol pills?

Eggs are full of protein, vitamins and have muscle regeneration capabilities.

3. Chocolate

Pure chocolate with a high concentration of cocoa can actually be good for you. It can thin your blood, lead to a healthier heart and reduce cortisol, meaning less stress and more muscles! You have to be careful with how much chocolate you consume as it does contain a fair amount of calories.

4. Nuts

Nuts have traditionally been considered to be high fat. Many nuts contain “good fats” so in fact they are good for your body when eaten in moderation. Walnuts are full of omega-3s and almonds full of vitamin E.

5. White rice

White rice has been seen as a no-no for dieters and those who are health conscious. However most white rice is nowadays enriched with lost nutrients. White rice also contains lower amounts of arsenic than brown rice!

People in nations who eat white rice as part of their staple diet are actually leaner than other nations.

6. Coffee

Coffee is not bad for you! Coffee contains flavonoids which are good for improving health and protecting cells against ageing. Coffee also boosts memory, performance and energy. You have to drink in moderation though!

If you have trouble sleeping, then coffee is a definite no-no.

7. Pasta

Pasta is not fattening if you eat spaghetti or macaroni which is made from durum wheat with a low glycemic index. Moderation is key!

8. Avocado

Avocados are a fruit with almost all calories coming from fats - so technically, not a fruit! The fats in avocados are good fats; avocados also contain 20 vitamins and minerals. Avocados are a super-food that should be an integral part of your diet.

9. Cranberry juice

Cranberry juice gets a bad rap due to its high sugar content. On the plus side, cranberry juice fights urinary tract infections, E-Coli and is full of vitamin C.

10. Mushrooms

People avoid mushrooms as a) they don’t like them or b) they think they don’t contain anything or c) they think it produces extra yeast in their body. Mushrooms contain niacin, selenium, riboflavin, vitamin D, calcium and iron. They have been shown to be useful in maintaining the immune system, have anti-cancer properties and lower cholesterol.
