Mark is 45 years old and has been training over 21 years now and personal training for 19 years. He's qualified coach with the BWLA (British Weightlifters Association). He's trained people of both sexes and of various abilities, ranging from all round weightlifters, bodybuilders, karate fighters and local footballers to people interested in general fitness.

He competed with the IAWA (International All Round Weightlifters Association) and has 20 World Records and 1 British Record. All the records are in the 80kg class, some are Masters 40+ and some are also open records as well. He's also a class 3 referee and the editor of the IAWA (UK) Strenghth Journal (2003 to present).

Mark also publishes and edits Mark Shaw's "Strength Athletes Journal", a quarterly that he's been doing for the past 6 years. He compiled 2 editions of "The British Bodybuilding and Fitness Directory" and compiled Musclemag International's "North American Bodybuilding and Fitness Directory".

His is the Midland Rep for Health and Strength Magazine and also published David Gentle's tribute book to John Grimek "Monarch of Muscledom". He's got over 200 articles, reports and quiz's published in 7 publications. The 3 mentioned above and The Iron Master, Natural Press, USA All Round Strength Journal and Muscle Mob.

In 2001 Mark was runner up in his weight class at the International Standpullers Association's British open Championships in Milton Keynes and has won the following IAWA (UK) titles in the 80kg class of the Masters 40+ age group:

  • 2001,2002, 2003- British Finger Lift Champion
  • 2004, 2005- British All Round Weightlifting Champion

In 2006 Mark hopes to compete in the IAWA World Championships in Glasgow in October and also the IAWA (UK) British All Round Championships in Leicester in June as well as getting more World Records as he has now moved to the 45+ age group.
