What can we say about Mark? This man has won pretty much everything there is. Mark is the world records holder for the Bench, Squat, Deadlift and total for the World Powerlifting Federeation.
Mark's goal is to be the best powerlifter pound for pound and to be the first person to squat 4 times his own body weight. We think he can and we are proud to sponsor Mark Griffiths.
May 2005 update: Mark just won the British Championships. He moved up to the 125 kilo class and broke the World Record in the Squat (350kilo squat!!!) and broke the world record total which was 852.5 with a total of 880.
After that Mark's suffered an injury in Ocotber but is back at training now and has been invited to Vienna for the European Championships after squatting 360kg at the British Championships held at Bath University on 22nd of April 2006.
In 2006 Mark's won the Malta's Strongest Man competition and placed 6th in England's Strongest Man.
In 2007 he won the Europeans with a 400kg squat, 230kg bench press and a 340.5kg dead lift braking three new world records in the 110 class. Mark also invested in his own gym in Derby.
Mark says: "From the age of four I have always been in love with Strongman competitions, having won everything in powerlifting I wanted a fresh challenge and in September 2005 having been bitten by a spider at work I had to spend 8 days in hospital. I had a surgery and was close to losing my arm or much worse my life. The doctors told me it would be 12 months until I would train again, but by March 2006 I was back, through pure gutts and will power. My mind was strong and the only thing in my life was my sport. Having lost my grandad and my health being poor, turning into Strongman for me was what I have always wanted and having almost died I made a promise to myself to follow my heart and my dreams...While I was in the hospital it made me realise that we only have one shot at life, and life is far too short. I train five times a week at the University of Derby , where I have my own strength coach, who is head of sport science- Dr. Phillip Whatkins. I am a drug free sports man, and I was an Olympic weigthlifter for 9 years, and a powerlifter. I have won many titles but the one I want is World's Strongest Man. I have been given the green light for Malta, the country of my birth, and will be there for the Worlds Strongest Man. "
