Later that year he entered the Junior National and won MIddleweight class. In 2005 He entered the National Championships for the first time and placed 12th in the Light Heavyweight Division.
Lamont says:
"Shawn Ray was a role model for me. One of the things that I admire about Shawn was his competitive spirit and passion for the sport of bodybuilding. He did not seek the advice of any precontest gurus or trainers. He was his own man, just like myslef. My setbacks and my losses will solely fall on my shoulders. What works for me may not work for everybody else.
I've also learned the improtance of precontest preparation. You should never save things for the last minute. The manadatories and your posing routine should be perfected two weeks out before the show. I'm fortunate that I can get into the contest shape in about 6-8 weeks. I just feel if you eat the right kinds of food during the offseason then the transition to precontest dieting will be a lot easier. I believe in never allowing yourself to become too heavy in the off season.
If you are competing, it's important to stand up there with a clear mind, knowing that you belong on stage. At my first show I didn't feel like I deserved to be up there. If you look at the pictures, it shows. Cofidence is important..."
Lamont's short term goals are to earn his pro card and long term goal is to achieve his potential of success.
