My wife has been told she needs a hysterectomy as a precaution. What shall I do?

Look, I am not going to go against your doctor's recommendations as I do not know your wife's case history and I am certainly not a qualified medical doctor. In the late 1990s, hysterectomy rates were just under 6 women in every 1000. That's a staggering number of women. I am not sure, but think they are going up.

There was actually an interesting study done recently which found that women who were interviewed by a nurse before seeing their doctors were 10% less likely to go for a hysterectomy. Can you believe that?

So the answer to your question is to go with your doctor's advice, but before doing so, do some of your own research and make sure that you and your wife are making the right decision. This is a big surgery and a big decision. Personally, I would never have surgery unless there was an imminent life-threatening situation – that's just me and my belief that there is usually an explanation for most people's problems in nature before resorting to surgery.
